Mission at First Church
First Church is committed to being a church that cares about the world around us and our brothers and sisters in the Greater New Britain community who are less fortunate.
A majority of our mission funds are given to the United Church of Christ's Missionary Society of Connecticut, which disburses these funds to areas in need in the United States and around the world.

On a more "hands-on" level, and to help those within our local community, First Church participates in the "Adopt-A-Social Worker" program sponsored by Covenant to Care. As the "tuna church," each month we collect tuna fish and other canned meat which is distributed to the Salvation Army's Food Pantry. Throughout the year we are involved in other mission opportunities, such as providing food baskets

American Friends of Kenya
(www.afkinc.org)
Many of us grew up with these two sayings: "Waste not, want not" and "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." American Friends of Kenya, established in 2004, epitomizes both of these, for they collect surplus books
and medical supplies from all over New England and beyond. Periodically, they
ship these items to Kenya to help build up Kenyan libraries and clinics and
hospitals. First Church has decided to be a collection point for books; and we
have also begun transporting surplus medical supplies rescued from a local
hospital to AFK's warehouse in Willimantic. If you have donations or want to
help in some way, contact AFK through their web site, or Carol North (at
229-3709, ext. 209, or carolnorth@usa.net), or Martha Moses (at 224-8266) for
more information.
